Lily Z. Shell
Lily is a costume designer based out of New York City and Madison, Wisconsin. She is currently pursuing her MA in Interdisciplinary Theatre Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
She completed her Costume Apprenticeship at The Juilliard School in 2018. She graduated from Vassar College in 2016 with a BA in American Studies with foci in popular culture and Africana Studies.
Her theatrical interests include dramaturgy through design, devised theatre, and costuming for dance.
She comes to costume design through a passion for theater that she has held since her early teenage years. In particular, she believes that her liberal arts coursework in American Studies strongly informs her designs, which are equally as influenced by popular culture as they are by historical and textual contexts. Her interest in costume design comes from a deep appreciation for the role of clothing in character, personality, and history, and she brings to her work a love for and focus on storytelling and character-building.
